A 19-year-old White male named Davon Marquece Dodge died on December 9, 2018 in Anchorage, Alaska. He was involved in what police described as an attempted gun sale that turned violent.
On the afternoon of that day, about 5:10 p.m., Dodge met with another 19-year-old male, Daniel L. Bender Jr., on West 29th Avenue, a residential area on the west side of Anchorage. The two had planned to conduct a transaction involving a firearm.
During their meeting, an argument broke out which escalated into gunfire. Both men were shot; neighbors heard the shots and called the police. When law enforcement arrived, they found both Davon Dodge and Daniel Bender Jr. fatally wounded. One was inside a truck parked on the street, the other outside.
Authorities treated the incident initially as a double homicide. The preliminary investigation, however, concluded that each had shot the other during the transaction. There was a person detained for questioning after police stopped a vehicle in the area, but that individual was released, having not been involved.
No suspect beyond these two deceased individuals was identified. Detectives were not pursuing additional suspects, and no arrests were made because the two involved were the only people determined to have been directly involved in the shooting.
