On the night of April 4, 2020, 27-year-old male, Pacific Islander Ionatana Toa left his home in Anchorage and entered a world that would close around him within minutes. At approximately 9:08 p.m., an Anchorage police officer near Bragaw Street and the Glenn Highway reported hearing a series of gunshots, while residents in the Mountain View neighborhood called in echoes of the same—shots cracking the air around East 7th Avenue and Klevin Street.
