The incident unfolded on the evening of April 4th, when police responded to reports of gunfire in the 4900 block of Nash Street, Northeast. Inside the stairwell of a residential building, officers discovered McDowney and 21-year-old Desmond Richardson, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services
arrived at the scene around 8:15 p.m. and found that both McDowney and Richardson showed no signs of life. They were pronounced dead at the location, their bodies later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The violence of that evening extended beyond the tragic deaths of the two men. A third male victim was found a short distance away in the 900 block of 44th Street, Northeast. He had also sustained a gunshot wound but his injuries were not life-threatening, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
In the aftermath of the double homicide, the Metropolitan Police Department launched an investigation into the killings. Detectives from the Homicide Branch have been handling the case, seeking assistance from the public to piece together the events that led to the shooting. To encourage potential witnesses to come forward, the department has offered a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Jobe McDowney and Desmond Richardson.
