The life of Brandon Marquez Porter, a 24-year-old man from Jasper, Alabama, ended in the summer of 2023. On Sunday, July 9, his body was discovered in a wooded area near the 1100 block of Highway 78 West. An autopsy later determined that Porter had died from gunshot wounds. Police believed he was likely killed on or around the Fourth of July, several days before he was found.
The Jasper Police Department immediately launched a homicide investigation.
"Finding out what happened to this young man is a top priority for our department, and detectives have been working tirelessly," said Police Chief J.C. Poe. Porter’s body was transported to the Department of Forensic Science in Huntsville for examination as investigators began the search for answers.
Detectives worked the case for weeks, and police noted that tips from the community proved instrumental to their progress. The investigation eventually led them to a suspect and the recovery of the murder weapon.
On July 21, 2023, the Jasper Police Department announced an arrest in the case. Jamorron Davion Clay, a 22-year-old from Jasper, was taken into custody and charged with intentional murder. He was initially held at the city jail before being transferred to the county jail to await further court proceedings.
As of July 2023, the case against Clay was moving through the legal system.
