On October 22, 2023, 37-year-old April Marie Britton was fatally shot in a domestic violence incident in Center Point, Alabama. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reported that the shooting occurred just after noon in the 1200 block of Huffman Road, an area between Birmingham and Center Point. Witnesses stated that Britton was in the backyard of a residence when her boyfriend, 48-year-old Emell O. Peavy, shot her in the presence of their juvenile children.
