In the early morning hours of May 27, 2022, Gerald Wayne McRee, a 60-year-old White male from the Woodstock, Alabama area, was killed in a vehicular incident on Alabama State Route 5. McRee was driving his 2006 Chevrolet Colorado when he was struck by a 2013 Toyota Tacoma driven by 24-year-old William Brooks Foster of McCalla. The collision occurred approximately five miles south of Woodstock. McRee was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to reports, Foster was driving on the wrong side of the road when the collision happened. It was also alleged that he forced another vehicle off the road just before the fatal crash. An investigation into the incident revealed that Foster's blood alcohol content was 0.157, which is nearly twice the legal limit in Alabama. Authorities also discovered that Foster had a prior DUI charge from April 2020.
Following the investigation, a grand jury indicted William Brooks Foster on charges of reckless murder and driving under the influence. Foster, who was injured in the wreck and hospitalized, later turned himself in to authorities. He has since been released on bond with conditions.
Gerald Wayne McRee was the owner of Wayne's Concrete for 38 years and was described as a hardworking family man with a vibrant personality. He was a husband of 42 years, a father to two children, and a grandfather to six.
