On November 6, 2022, the body of 54-year-old Victoria Malet was discovered near Cook Springs Road in Pell City, Alabama. She had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The St. Clair County Sheriff's Office initiated a homicide investigation and quickly identified 35-year-old Michael Jerome Butler as a suspect. At the time, Butler was in custody in Prattville on unrelated charges, including robbery, rape, sexual abuse, and kidnapping.
