On December 15, 2021, 59-year-old Mark Lyle Miller, an avid cyclist and retired veterinarian from Birmingham, was killed in a hit-and-run incident while riding his bicycle along U.S. Highway 78 in Leeds, Alabama. Miller was cycling westbound when he was struck by an SUV that fled the scene. The next day, authorities arrested 26-year-old Amber Lynette Green of Pell City, who was later charged with criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.
