On December 15, 2021, 59-year-old Mark Lyle Miller, an avid cyclist and retired veterinarian from Birmingham, was killed in a hit-and-run incident while riding his bicycle along U.S. Highway 78 in Leeds, Alabama. Miller was cycling westbound when he was struck by an SUV that fled the scene.
