In the winter of 2020, a life was tragically cut short in Leeds, Alabama. James Brody Sargent, a 19-year-old male, was killed by gun violence on January 20th of that year. Remembered as a kind-hearted and sweet boy, he was known for being a fierce protector of his friends and family, with a big, goofy laugh and a hearty smile. He was a graduate of Moody High School.
The events that led to his untimely death unfolded into a homicide investigation by the Leeds Police Department.
In connection with the fatal shooting, an arrest was made. A teenager from Leeds was taken into custody and subsequently charged in Sargent's death, which occurred in the 8000 block of Charles Barkley Avenue. The suspect was identified as a fellow teenager, bringing a somber tone to the community as they grappled with the reality of youth violence.
