On May 13, 2020, in Center Point, Alabama, 2-year-old Demetric Hampton Jr. was found unresponsive at his home. His father, 26-year-old Demetric Hampton Sr., informed authorities that the child had choked while eating. The boy was transported to Children's of Alabama hospital, where medical personnel discovered multiple injuries and burns inconsistent with the father's account. Despite efforts to save him, Demetric Jr. was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
