George A. Hardy, 67, male, was at home in Thornton, Colorado, on the evening of December 8, 1977, when two armed men burst in wearing ski masks. Inside the house with him were his wife, who was preparing dinner, and their young granddaughter. What began as an ordinary, domestic evening turned into terror as the intruders brandished guns and took control of the room.
