On June 15, 2019, 28-year-old Jamarcus Dejun Moore was fatally shot by Birmingham police officers following a pursuit that began in Ensley and concluded in Hueytown, Alabama. The incident commenced when officers attempted a traffic stop near Avenue I and 21st Street in Ensley. Moore, the driver, reportedly fled, leading to a nine-mile chase.
