In the fall of 2019, a domestic dispute in Fairfield, Alabama, escalated to a tragic conclusion, claiming the life of 35-year-old Sidell Alstan Erskine. On the afternoon of October 3rd, Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of 52nd Street. Inside, they discovered Mr. Erskine, who had sustained fatal stab wounds.
The investigation into the male's death quickly identified a suspect at the scene.
Authorities determined that the stabbing occurred during an altercation between Erskine and his girlfriend, 28-year-old Jammie Hughes. She was promptly arrested in connection with the incident.
Following her arrest, Jammie Hughes was charged with murder. She was subsequently booked into the Jefferson County Jail, with her bond set at $100,000. The case marked another instance of domestic violence turning fatal in the Birmingham area that year.
