On September 3, 2019, the decomposing body of 35-year-old Adam Ruben Jason Beard, a male resident of Blountsville, Alabama, was discovered inside a steel canister behind a home on Paige Springs Road. An investigation determined that Beard had been brutally beaten to death with an aluminum baseball bat. His mother had reported him missing just one day prior to the grim discovery. Responding authorities were led to his remains by a powerful odor emanating from the container, which was located just inside a wood line.
The investigation into Beard's death quickly led to the arrest of four individuals who were known to be his friends: Sara Moore, Haley Ragsdale, Ryan Hunter Farr, and Jesus Flores. All four were subsequently charged with capital murder. According to statements given to investigators, Beard had gone to Moore's trailer to get a phone from Flores. Upon entering the residence, he was viciously attacked by Flores and Farr, who reportedly took turns striking him in the head with the bat. Even after the severe beating, Beard was still alive, so his assailants placed a garbage bag over his head. They then tied him up and hid his body under the trailer before later moving him into the steel barrel. The suspects also admitted to taking drugs and money from Beard's pockets after the assault.
During questioning, the four suspects provided conflicting accounts of the murder, each attempting to shift the blame onto the others. Moore claimed that Flores and Farr initiated the attack. Flores, however, alleged that it was Farr and Moore who killed Beard during an argument over payment for drugs. Farr contended that Flores was the sole killer, and he and Moore were merely witnesses. Despite the conflicting narratives, investigators found evidence, including blood spatter and a murder weapon, an aluminum baseball bat, at the scene inside the trailer.
In the years that followed the murder, the legal process brought resolutions for most of those involved. In December 2022, Sara Moore pleaded guilty to felony murder and received a 50-year prison sentence. Haley Ragsdale entered a guilty plea for felony murder in July 2023 and was sentenced to 24 years in prison. In July 2024, Ryan Hunter Farr also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The final suspect, Jesus Flores, is still awaiting trial, with prosecutors seeking the death penalty for his alleged role in the brutal slaying.
