In the winter chill of late December 2023, a fire broke out at a home in Birmingham, Alabama, an event that would ultimately lead to the tragic death of Otis William Jones, Jr. a 44-year-old Black male with a spinal cord injury. Firefighters bravely pulled Mr. Jones from the blaze, but his injuries were too severe. He succumbed to the burns eight days later, on January 5, 2024.
