Woman's body discovered on a frontage road In the summer of 1988, the life of 22-year-old Robin Denise Nelson, a Black female from Denver, came to a tragic and mysterious end. On June 7th, she entrusted her son to the care of a friend, promising to return for him. However, she never did. Her failure to come back as planned sparked concern, leading her friend to contact the Denver Police Department.
The young mother had seemingly vanished, leaving behind a web of unanswered questions.
Five days later, on the afternoon of June 12th, a grim discovery was made near Dacono in Weld County. The body of a woman, in an advanced state of decomposition, was found at Weld County Road 8 and the I-25 West Frontage Road. Due to the condition of the remains, immediate identification was not possible. Investigators worked quickly, and by June 14th, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation confirmed the body was that of Robin Denise Nelson.
An investigation into Robin's life and activities leading up to her death was launched by the Weld County Sheriff's Office. Despite their efforts, no potential suspects were identified. The Weld County Coroner ultimately determined that Robin died from a drug overdose. However, the circumstances surrounding her death were deemed suspicious, leading authorities to classify her case as a homicide. The investigation also revealed that Robin was an acquaintance of Tammy Lynn Cheeks, another woman who would become the subject of a separate cold case in the same county years later.
