At approximately 10 p.m. in the vicinity of South 16th Street and West Cleveland Avenue, he was approached by multiple individuals and stabbed. The violent encounter left Kohen with critical injuries, and he was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his wounds six days later on April 9, 2012.
The Milwaukee Police Department launched a homicide investigation into Kohen's death, with robbery being considered as a possible motive for the attack. In the months that followed, investigators pursued various leads, but the case eventually reached a standstill. A witness reported seeing two men approach Kohen before the stabbing, but no suspects were publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with his murder.
