In the cold of a Milwaukee morning on February 1, 2013, a young African-American man named Kenneth Jackson, 21, was fatally shot. The burst of violence that claimed his life erupted around 10 a.m. in the 2400 block of N. 41st St. In the attack, Jackson was shot approximately 30 times, a brutal end to a young life. He was not the only victim of the gunfire that day; a 22-year-old woman, identified as his girlfriend, was also wounded in the assault but survived her injuries.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrests of two men, Dwayne A. Cannon, then 22, and Christopher Davis-Clair, who was 20 at the time. Prosecutors brought serious charges against both suspects, including first-degree intentional homicide with the use of a dangerous weapon for the death of Jackson. They also faced a charge of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, again with the use of a dangerous weapon, for the injuries sustained by Jackson's girlfriend. Following their arrests, the case against Cannon and Davis-Clair moved toward trial.
