In the late evening hours of Sunday, October 18, 2015, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of a Milwaukee neighborhood, leaving a family grieving and a community searching for answers. Joseph Gregory, a 45-year-old Black / African American man, was fatally shot around 10:40 p.m. in the vicinity of the 2400 block of W. Cypress Street. The incident, which also was reported as occurring near Cypress and Fond du Lac, added to a growing homicide count in the city that year.
