A grocery store employee is murdered during a robbery On a Thursday afternoon, February 22, 1990, tragedy struck the Fil-Am Grocery Store in the Providence Square Shopping Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Annunciacion Lapio Imperial, a 56-year-old Asian woman, was working alone as the evening clerk when she was brutally murdered between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. The motive for this violent act appears to have been robbery.
At the time of her death, Mrs.
Imperial was described as being 4'11' tall and weighing 147 pounds, with brown eyes and black and gray hair. The case remains an active investigation, a cold case that has lingered for decades.
In the immediate aftermath of the crime, witnesses reported seeing a person of interest in the vicinity of the grocery store shortly before and after Mrs. Imperial was found. This individual was described as a Black male between 30 and 45 years of age, standing approximately 5'10' tall with a thin, muscular build and a weathered appearance. He was reportedly wearing a brown or tan colored uniform. Despite this description, no arrests have ever been publicly announced in connection with the murder of Annunciacion Lapio Imperial, and the case continues to seek resolution.
