A young man of promise is cut down by a shot in the dark In the summer of 2013, the life of 18-year-old Garrick L. Ellis, a Black male from Richmond, Virginia, was tragically cut short. On the night of August 17th, Ellis, a rising senior at Thomas Jefferson High School known for his love of basketball and vibrant personality, was walking with friends in the 3000 block of 4th Avenue. The group had just left a party near Brookland Park Boulevard when shots rang out in the dark.
