What happened to Ebony on April 23, 2014?
On an unfortunate spring day in Richmond, Virginia, the life of 33-year-old Ebony Naomi Hurd was tragically cut short. On April 23, 2014, officers from the Richmond Police Department were dispatched to the 2100 block of Mimosa Street following a report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Ms. Hurd and a man, later identified as Ivan Tyree Bridges, inside a vehicle, both having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported Ms. Hurd to a local hospital, but she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Mr. Bridges was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation into the double homicide revealed that two unidentified Black males were seen in the vicinity prior to the shooting. These individuals were described as being between 20 and 25 years of age and standing between 5'3' and 5'8' tall.
In the wake of this violent act, the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Richmond Area Violent Enterprise Task Force joined the Richmond Police Department in the search for those responsible. A reward of up to $10,000 has been offered by the FBI for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individuals involved in the murders of Ebony Hurd and Ivan Bridges. Despite these efforts, the suspects have not been apprehended, and the case remains unsolved.
Ebony Hurd was a mother to three children, Kalee, Ontranique, and Lakeith Hurd, and a grandmother to one. Her sudden death left her family, including her parents and five siblings, and the wider community in mourning. A funeral service was held for her on May 1, 2014, at Mimms Funeral Home, and she was laid to rest at Maury Cemetery. The search for answers and justice for Ebony Hurd and Ivan Bridges continues.
