On October 17, 2015, in the 300 block of Hunt Avenue, he was the victim of a homicide. The circumstances surrounding his death prompted an investigation by the City of Richmond Police Department.
In the years that followed, the quest for justice for Muhammed Abu-Bakr continued.
His case became part of a Cold Case Initiative, a collaborative effort involving local law enforcement and the FBI's Central Virginia Violent Crimes Task Force. In an effort to generate new leads, the FBI announced a significant reward of up to $10,000 for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for his murder. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward and contact the Richmond Division of the FBI, emphasizing that even the smallest detail could be the key to solving the case. As of now, the case remains unsolved, with no publicly identified suspects or arrests made in connection with the homicide.
