Do you know who murdered Shaquille Hargrove? In the early morning hours of July 13, 2013, the lively downtown Denver area of 15th and Market Streets was filled with people as the bars were closing. Amidst this backdrop, a Black male named Shaquille Hargrove, an active member of the United States Air Force, was found suffering from a gunshot wound. At the time of his death, Hargrove was either 19 or 20 years old.
He was an Airman 1st Class serving as a 2nd Space Warning Squadron satellite systems operator at Buckley Air Force Base.
Just after 2:00 a.m., while officers were in the process of breaking up a fight in the vicinity, a gunshot was heard. They discovered Hargrove, who had been shot in the chest. He was quickly transported to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. In the immediate aftermath, another airman was also reported to have been injured, though their identity was not publicly released.
The investigation into Hargrove's death commenced swiftly, with the Denver Police Department leading the efforts. In the days following the shooting, authorities released a sketch of a potential suspect. The person of interest was described as having braided hair tucked under a doo-rag, acne on both cheeks, and wearing thin-framed glasses. Despite the public plea for information, including any cellphone video or pictures from that night, an arrest in Hargrove's murder has remained elusive. His family has publicly pleaded for witnesses to come forward to bring them closure.
While no one has been charged in connection with Hargrove's death, four other men were arrested and faced charges related to a separate assault that occurred during the widespread altercation in the same area on that same night. The case of Shaquille Hargrove's death is still considered a cold case, and the Denver Police Department continues to seek information from the public.
