In the early morning hours of July 13, 2013, the lively downtown Denver area of 15th and Market Streets was filled with people as the bars were closing. Amidst this backdrop, a Black male named Shaquille Hargrove, an active member of the United States Air Force, was found suffering from a gunshot wound. At the time of his death, Hargrove was either 19 or 20 years old. He was an Airman 1st Class serving as a 2nd Space Warning Squadron satellite systems operator at Buckley Air Force Base.
