In the quiet community of Bealeton, Virginia, a loving father and his son were tragically killed in their own home. Duong Nguyen, a 61-year-old man of Vietnamese descent, was a skilled cabinet maker who had emigrated from Vietnam decades prior. He was so proud of his new country that he named his son America and his daughter Virginia. In early November of 2018, while his wife and daughter were on a trip to Vietnam to care for a sick relative, Duong and his 22-year-old son, America, were the only two at their residence on Salisbury Lane.
Sometime between the evening of November 7th and the morning of November 8th, 2018, an unknown individual or individuals entered the Nguyen's home and shot both Duong and America multiple times in their upper torsos. There were no signs of forced entry into the newly built home. The mother and daughter grew concerned when they were unable to reach either of the men after repeated attempts on November 8th. They asked friends to check on the house, which led to a request for a welfare check by the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office. On the morning of November 9th, deputies entered the home through an unlocked door and discovered the bodies of the father and son.
The double homicide investigation was launched, with law enforcement officials believing the attack was targeted and not a random act of violence. Despite this, a motive for the killings has not been determined or publicly released. Friends and family described Duong and America as kind and gentle people who were not known to have any enemies, leaving them baffled as to why anyone would want to harm them. America was a student at Northern Virginia Community College and had just started a new job at Amazon days before his death.
As of today, the case remains unsolved. No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in the murders of Duong and America Nguyen. The Federal Bureau of Investigation has become involved in the case, offering a reward of up to $20,000 for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this violent crime. Investigators have sought information from anyone who may have been traveling along the Route 28 corridor in Fauquier County to Prince William County on the night of the murders and may have seen something suspicious.
