Raquel Mundy, age 24, was found dead on June 18, 2010, in Houston, Texas. Mundy, a single mother of two young children, was discovered in a field at the dead end of 300 St. Charles by a homeless man. She had been strangled, and the autopsy revealed that her body showed signs of possible foul play. Police believe she may have been killed elsewhere before her body was dumped at that location.
The events leading up to Mundy's death began when she dropped off her mother and her children at the downtown Greyhound bus station around 1:30 a.m. on June 17. Unfortunately, her car was towed from a nearby parking lot shortly afterward, leaving her stranded. Witnesses reported that Mundy was last seen getting into a gray car driven by a Hispanic male, and she later sent her mother two concerning text messages. In these messages, Mundy expressed that she believed she was in danger, stating, "Tell my girls I love them" and "Mom, I think this Mex might hurt".
Police have not ruled out the possibility of a connection between Mundy's death and the strangulation of two other women in downtown Houston around the same time. Although there were similarities among the three cases, including the method of strangulation and the downtown locations where the bodies were found, investigators have not confirmed if the murders were committed by the same person. DNA evidence was collected but results were pending at the time.
