On April 29, 2011, 32-year-old Ponpet Vongkhamchanh was fatally shot during a home invasion in Fort Worth, Texas. Late that Friday night, while watching television in his living room, Vongkhamchanh was confronted by four intruders who entered his residence and shot him. Family members reported signs of a struggle and noted that electronic items were stolen from the home.
The Fort Worth Police Department indicated that the incident might have been isolated and suggested the possibility that Vongkhamchanh knew the suspects. Neighbors in the typically quiet community expressed shock and sadness over the crime, describing Vongkhamchanh as a mild-mannered individual who treated people with great respect. Authorities sought assistance from the public, noting that four Asian men were seen leaving Vongkhamchanh's home shortly after the crime. They urged anyone with information to contact the Fort Worth police.
