Erika Moreno, a 29-year-old woman, was tragically shot and killed on January 10, 2013, in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred around 11 p.m. while Moreno was driving near the 5400 block of Birdwood. According to investigators, a group of men in a black Chevrolet Tahoe approached her vehicle for reasons that remain unclear. When they got out of the vehicle armed with a pistol, Moreno attempted to flee by putting her Nissan SUV in reverse. However, one of the men opened fire, hitting her.
Her SUV rolled backward until it came to a stop against a fence. She died at the scene, slumped behind the wheel of her car.
Witnesses reported seeing the Tahoe, which had black tinted windows and black rims, fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting. Despite these witness reports, no descriptions of the men involved were available, and investigators have not identified a clear motive for the crime. It is believed that it may have been a botched carjacking attempt, as the suspects left without taking her vehicle once they realized she had been shot.
