A mom disappears \u0026 is later found murdered
Phyllis O'Brien Carson, 32, was last seen on the evening of October 24, 1970, at a bar called Francis Truck Stop in French Camp, California. She had gone to the bar with her sister-in-law, Laurel Robinson, and Laurel’s boyfriend. Phyllis was seen socializing and dancing with an unidentified man. At some point, her companions left the bar, but Phyllis remained behind, stating that she would get a ride home later. Around 9:30 p.m., she called home to let her daughter know that she had found a ride with a friend and would be returning soon. Unfortunately, Phyllis never made it home that night.
Her body was discovered about two weeks later, on November 11, 1970, along a rural road in San Joaquin County. It was clear that she had been murdered, but no suspect was formally identified. The case has remained unsolved for decades, though her daughter Melissa Carson has been an active advocate for re-investigating the crime, lobbying authorities to issue rewards for any new information. Recently, the California governor's office offered a $50,000 reward in an effort to generate leads and solve this cold case.
