Farooq Khanani, a 60-year-old businessman from Sugar Land, Texas, was fatally shot on October 31, 2013, in northeast Houston. The incident took place outside his store on South Hall Street. According to investigators, Khanani had just returned from a bank and was carrying a large amount of cash at the time of the shooting. He was followed by a vehicle, described by witnesses as a black or dark-colored Chrysler 300, which trailed him from the bank to the store. Upon reaching the parking lot, the assailants opened fire, and Khanani was struck multiple times.
After being shot, Khanani attempted to drive away from the scene but crashed his vehicle a short distance from the store, succumbing to his injuries at the site. The police believe the motive was robbery, as Khanani had substantial cash on him when the attack occurred. However, they did not disclose if any money was taken from the vehicle. No suspects were immediately identified, and the investigation faced challenges due to the limited evidence and the absence of any clear identification of the perpetrators involved in the attack.
