Robert Blanton, a 32-year-old African American man from San Antonio, Texas, was tragically shot and killed on June 2, 2014. He was killed minutes before his 33rd birthday while driving with a woman on the East Side of San Antonio. They were on their way to a "weed house" when shots were fired at their car, a Mercury Grand Marquis. Blanton was hit several times and later died at the San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Authorities believe that the shots came from a 1999 Buick Roadmaster,
which was later recovered by the police. Shell casings were found on Hays Street, where bullets had also struck two other cars and an SUV. Investigators also discovered drugs at Blanton's home. Despite these findings, no arrests have been made in connection with his death.
Robert Blanton's twin brother, Reginald Blanton, was executed in October 2009 for the robbery and shooting death of Carlos Garza in 2000. Robert and his girlfriend told police that Reginald was responsible for Robert's killing, claiming that he had sold Garza's jewelry. However, Reginald's lawyers argued that these statements were coerced, and he maintained his innocence throughout his imprisonment.
The case remains unsolved, and San Antonio Crime Stoppers has offered a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for Robert Blanton's death. The investigation continues, but as of now, no suspects have been identified or charged.
