Angel Salazar, aged 28, was abducted and later found dead on August 18, 2015, in San Antonio, Texas. Salazar was kidnapped on August 15 from the 400 block of West Drexel Avenue. He was taken to an abandoned apartment complex on South Flores Street, where his decomposed body was discovered three days later. Prosecutors linked the crime to drug cartel activity, claiming that Salazar was kidnapped and killed over a financial debt to the organization. He suffered extensive injuries, including being beaten, stabbed, and ultimately shot in the back of the head.
Robert Aguilar, one of the individuals involved, was charged with capital murder. During the trial, prosecutors highlighted the brutality of Salazar's death, noting that he was tortured before the fatal shot was administered. Aguilar, who was also the ringleader of the group, was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The court case also revealed that Aguilar and others tied Salazar at the wrists and ankles before killing him as per instructions from a cartel.
