On February 27, 2015, Michael Irving, aged 32, was fatally shot in the parking lot of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. after Irving had volunteered at a Black History Month event held at the church. He was awaiting a ride when he was approached and shot once in the head.
