On August 13, 1978, Barbara Nantais, age 15, was found murdered at Torrey Pines State Beach in San Diego. She had been strangled, beaten, and severely mutilated. Barbara had gone to the beach the night before to camp out with her boyfriend, James Alt. During the attack, Alt was also assaulted and left unconscious with severe injuries but survived.
