On May 17, 2016, 11-year-old Josue Flores was fatally stabbed while walking home from Marshall Middle School in Houston, Texas. The attack occurred in the Near Northside neighborhood, where Josue was stabbed more than 20 times. Initially, Andre Jackson, a former Marine Corps veteran, was arrested in connection with the murder.
However, due to inconclusive DNA evidence, charges were dropped in 2017. Advancements in DNA testing technology later provided new evidence, leading to Jackson's re-arrest in 2019. During the trial in May 2022, prosecutors presented surveillance footage and forensic evidence linking Jackson to the crime. After a week of testimony and three hours of deliberation, the jury found Jackson guilty of murder. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison.
Josue was remembered as a bright and kind young boy who aspired to be a doctor or scientist.
