On October 25, 2016, Renard Smith, age 29, was shot and killed outside The Right Choice Food Mart on Midcrown Drive in San Antonio, Texas. The suspect, identified as Savawn Kyle, allegedly shot Smith in the head over money owed. Witnesses reported seeing Kyle approach Smith, shoot him, and go through his pockets. Kyle fled the scene in a silver Mercedes Benz.

Kyle was later arrested by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and charged with capital murder. Witnesses recalled that Kyle later ...
