In the midst of a contentious divorce, 36-year-old Caucasian male Fabian D. Martin was shot and killed by his estranged wife, Tiffany Spence, in Nashville, Tennessee, on June 8, 2013. Martin had custody of their children at the time. The fatal encounter occurred at Martin's residence during a heated argument.
Initially, Spence contacted 911, claiming she was in fear during the altercation.
Her initial statement to the police alleged that the shooting was an accident that happened as she and Martin struggled over a firearm he had purportedly reached for. However, inconsistencies in her account led to further investigation by the authorities.
As the investigation progressed, Spence's initial story unraveled. She later admitted that the shooting was premeditated. Her confession revealed that she had purchased the gun from a pawn shop and had hidden it at Martin's home prior to the shooting. In 2016, Tiffany Spence pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the death of her estranged husband. She was subsequently sentenced to 13 years in prison. The case and the unraveling of Spence's initial claims were later featured on the television show 'Evil Talks: Chilling Confessions'.
