On May 30, 2014, Christopher Redden, a 29-year-old resident of Memphis, Tennessee, was shot and killed while at a Mapco gas station. Witnesses reported that Redden was confronted by an unidentified suspect who pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times, resulting in his death at the scene. The incident, which occurred in the midst of broad daylight, left the community shaken, and it took place during a period when Memphis was experiencing an increase in violent crime.
