Rodney Leidig, an 18-year-old resident of San Diego, was fatally shot on April 9, 1998. The incident occurred at the intersection of Treewood and Sweetwood Streets. Leidig and two friends were standing on the sidewalk when two suspects began firing at them from the yard of a nearby house. Leidig and his friends immediately tried to flee the scene, but Leidig was struck by gunfire and collapsed a short distance away.
Leidig's friends ran to a nearby house for help and then returned to attempt to transport him to the hospital. However, police responding to reports of shots fired arrived on the scene before they could do so, and paramedics were dispatched shortly afterward. Unfortunately, by the time medical personnel arrived, Leidig had already succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into Rodney Leidig's murder remains unsolved, and law enforcement has urged anyone with information regarding the case to contact the San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit or the Cold Case Team. Despite the passage of time, authorities continue to seek leads that could help bring justice to Leidig's family.
