On May 11, 2014, 42-year-old Daniel Anthony Coriz was shot and killed outside a residence in the Jamacha neighborhood near Lemon Grove in San Diego, California. Police responded to a report of gunshots just after midnight and found Coriz lying outside a home on Koe Street. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to his upper torso, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene. The investigation revealed that two masked suspects, dressed in black hooded sweatshirts and black bandannas, approached Coriz, with one of them firing the fatal shots before fleeing the area.
The case remained unsolved for almost a decade until a significant breakthrough in 2024. Detectives identified Sonny Estrada, a 50-year-old man, as the suspect responsible for the shooting. Estrada was already in custody on unrelated charges at the San Diego County Jail when he was formally charged with murder on February 9, 2024. Despite the arrest, authorities continue to seek additional information from the community to strengthen the case and potentially uncover further details about the events leading to Coriz’s death.
