On a summer evening in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the life of 18-year-old Marteze Ward was tragically cut short. On July 31, 2009, in the Arlington Heights neighborhood, Ward was fatally shot in the chest. Shortly after the shooting, he was also struck by a vehicle. Responding officers discovered Ward unconscious at 3155 Cordell Place and he was subsequently transported to UPMC Mercy hospital. Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at 10:27 p.m.
