In the spring of 2017, a Philadelphia man named Sterling Cole, a 48-year-old father of five, died just one day shy of his 49th birthday. His death was the result of a brutal beating he endured at the hands of a fellow inmate while incarcerated at the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in the Holmesburg section of the city. Cole had been in jail since the preceding September, facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault.
