In the early morning hours of January 24, 2010, the life of 18-year-old Brian Crosland was tragically cut short in his North Philadelphia neighborhood. A neighbor discovered the young man's body lying in a desolate, trash-strewn vacant lot on the 1800 block of North Taney Street at approximately 4:25 a.m. and immediately contacted the police. When authorities arrived, they found Crosland with a single gunshot wound to his head and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to his
family and police, it is believed that the motive for the shooting was a robbery, with his coat and cell phone being taken from him. The incident occurred in a muddy lot adjacent to a partially collapsed house, a grim setting for such a violent act. In the hours following the discovery of his body, his mother, Debbie Crosland, was seen at the location, overwhelmed with grief as she pointed out the spot where her son had died. She described her son as a generous person who was in the process of working towards his GED.
At the time of the initial reports, Philadelphia police had not identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the fatal shooting. The investigation into the death of Brian Crosland was ongoing as authorities sought to piece together the events that led to the teenager's untimely death.
