On a June afternoon in 2010, Lamar Williams, a 24-year-old Black man, was the victim of a targeted shooting in Pittsburgh's Overbrook neighborhood. The incident unfolded as Williams was parking his white Cadillac STS in the lot of a lounge near Saw Mill Run Boulevard and Maytide Street. He was on his way to work as an auto detailer at the time.
Suddenly, a black Lexus carrying two individuals began pursuing him. The assailants opened fire, striking Williams in the chest and arm.
Despite his injuries, Williams managed to drive away onto Overbrook Boulevard in an attempt to escape his attackers. However, his wounds proved to be fatal. After traveling a short distance, his vehicle crashed into the garage of a home. A homicide detective who was nearby at the time of the crash was the first to respond to the scene.
Investigators quickly determined that the attack on Lamar Williams was not a random act of violence but a calculated assault. The black Lexus used by the shooters was later discovered abandoned in the Mt. Oliver area and was found to have been stolen. Police recovered surveillance video from outside the lounge that captured the shooting and were reviewing it for leads. Authorities believe the shooting may have been the result of an ongoing dispute. Despite the investigation and the belief that several individuals were involved, no arrests have been made in the case, and it remains unsolved.
