Emilio Lopez, aged 18, was tragically shot and killed on September 29, 2010, while sitting with friends in his car, parked on the block where he lived in Northeast Philadelphia. Emilio was a bright young man, known for his passion for cooking, especially Spanish food, and his dream of becoming a rapper. He graduated from Northeast Philadelphia High School in June 2010 and had plans to start classes at Orleans Technical College in October.
Sadly, his promising future was cut short by the senseless act of violence, and his case remains unsolved.
Emilio had a close relationship with his mother, Nilsa, who describes him as a humble and caring son who always looked out for his siblings. Nilsa had raised Emilio and his siblings on her own, doing everything she could to provide for them and set them up for success. Emilio was known for his good nature, his dedication to his family, and his love for cooking, which made Thanksgiving his favorite holiday.
Despite numerous appeals for information, no arrests have been made in connection with Emilio’s death. His family continues to seek justice, with a reward of up to $20,000 being offered for information leading to an arrest. His mother, Nilsa, still visits his grave at Oakland Cemetery weekly and has kept an eternal candle lit at his resting place as a tribute to her son's memory and in the hope of finding some closure someday.
