In the late evening of June 20, 2012, the life of 24-year-old Montrell Green was tragically cut short in Pittsburgh's Hill District. Known affectionately as 'Boomy' to his loved ones, the young Black man was a father to twin girls and a resident of the nearby Uptown neighborhood. He was discovered by Pittsburgh police in a courtyard on the 2400 block of Bedford Avenue around 10:25 p.m., having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The community was shaken by the violent loss of a man described as part of a close-knit family. In the immediate aftermath, homicide detectives began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Green's death. Authorities at the time indicated they would be reviewing surveillance footage from the area in an effort to identify any potential suspects. It was believed that Green may have been in the neighborhood visiting relatives.
