In the early morning hours of July 2, 2013, the life of 20-year-old Jamil Lloyd-El was tragically cut short in the Hazelwood neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Lloyd-El, a male, was discovered on the porch of a home on Winston Avenue, suffering from a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. A resident of the house had their doorbell ring and opened it to find the critically injured man. A person in the home attempted to render aid by applying pressure to the wound until paramedics arrived.
Lloyd-El was then rushed to UPMC Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:30 a.m.
The shooting of Jamil Lloyd-El was one of two violent incidents that occurred in close proximity and within a short time frame in Hazelwood that night, prompting homicide detectives to investigate a possible connection between them. Just before Lloyd-El was found, another shooting was reported nearby on Johnston Avenue, where a 45-year-old man was shot in the face but survived. This victim told police he had seen several shadows across the street on Johnston Avenue before hearing multiple gunshots.
Despite the initial investigation and the potential link to the other shooting, no suspects were publicly identified in the murder of Jamil Lloyd-El. The case has since gone cold, and as of late 2024, there have been no arrests made in connection with his death. His killing remains an unsolved homicide in the city of Pittsburgh.
