Calvin George Doswell, a 30-year-old from Pittsburgh, was shot and killed on October 15, 2013. The incident took place near the corner of Oberlin and Stranahan Streets, just a few dozen feet away from his mother’s apartment. Witnesses reported seeing two men scuffling with Doswell before one of them, dressed in a red hooded sweatshirt, pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times. The other man was described as wearing a gray sweatshirt.
The suspects fled the scene, and no arrests have been made in the case.
The investigation into Doswell's death has been challenging for law enforcement. Despite the presence of several people at the scene, cooperation with investigators has been limited. Doswell's death was later linked to tensions involving individuals in the Wilkinsburg community, which ultimately played a part in a mass shooting in 2016. Allegedly, Doswell had been involved in low-level drug activity in the Homewood North neighborhood, which may have made him a target. Despite these links, law enforcement has been unable to make a definitive arrest or bring the perpetrators to justice.
The case remains unsolved, leaving many questions unanswered for Doswell's family and the Pittsburgh community. The lack of surveillance at the location and limited witness cooperation have made it difficult for authorities to solve the homicide, and the circumstances surrounding his death continue to impact those connected to the incident, including in the later events in Wilkinsburg.
