On a cold December evening in Philadelphia, the life of 25-year-old Bernard Franklin came to a violent and tragic end. It was a Saturday, just days before Christmas in 2013, when gunfire erupted in the East Germantown section of the city. Franklin, a resident of West Oak Lane, found himself on the 1300 block of East Johnson Street when he was targeted in a hail of bullets. The attack was brutal and swift, leaving him with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, right arm, and right leg.
