Jamarow Trowery, aged 36, was tragically killed on March 25, 2014, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Trowery was found in an SUV that had crashed into the back of the Radiant Life Alliance Church on Kincaid Street, in the Garfield neighborhood. He, along with 18-year-old Rashad Freeman, had been shot and killed while inside the vehicle, which police believe was heading to pick up another person when the attack occurred.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders who arrived at the site shortly before 11 p.m. that evening. The investigation into their deaths remains ongoing, and no suspects have yet been charged in connection with the double homicide.
Trowery was originally from Wilkinsburg, a suburb of Pittsburgh, and had also lived in other nearby areas like Penn Hills. He had previous legal issues involving weapons-related charges, including a notable conviction in 2007. Freeman, who was from Verona, was also facing pending charges for drug and weapons offenses at the time of his death. This violent incident was part of a broader spike in homicides across Pittsburgh in 2014, which saw one of the highest murder totals in the city in recent years.
The Allegheny County District Attorney's Office pursued an extensive investigation, including reviewing materials such as rap lyrics written by Theodore Smedley, who was implicated in Trowery's killing. Smedley was also connected to another homicide that took place shortly before Trowery and Freeman were killed. Despite efforts by the authorities to link Smedley more directly to the incident through handwriting analysis of the lyrics, complications arose, such as disputes over search warrants and legal processes involving Smedley's possessions while in custody.
